The temportal mandibular joint (also known as the TMJ) is the joint where the upper and lower jaws meet. There are two bones and five muscles in this area, along with cartilage.
Many people have problems with their TMJ when their teeth and jaws do not line up correctly. Trauma can also cause pain in this location. However, most people experience TMJ pain due to tension.
Common TMJ problems can include:
- Head and earaches
- Jaw clicking or popping
- Jaw pain
- Soreness in the jaw and mouth
- Trouble opening and closing your mouth
If you suffer from TMJ problems, we can help. There are times when we need to move your teeth and adjust your bite to help with pain. Sometimes in the case of missing teeth, we need to think about replacing them.
When the problem is due to stress and tension, we may recommend a mouthpiece to stop you from grinding and clenching your teeth. The treatment for the disease differs since everyone’s mouth is different, so it is important to schedule an appointment.
Don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions.
