During a professional cleaning, we remove any plaque and tartar that builds up on your teeth. We have ultrasonic scalers, as well as hand scalers, which we use based on patient need and comfort. We also polish your teeth. If necessary, we will apply fluoride to your teeth. The gums and the bone surrounding the teeth are evaluated and treated during the cleaning. The professional cleaning is only a portion of your overall dental hygiene, so we educate you how to care for your gums and teeth at home.
We recommend two professional cleanings a year for most patients, some patients may need to come more or less frequently. We determine the frequency for each patient based on your needs.
